An open-air opera about surrender, change and connection
Jephte comes home after a victorious war and resolves to sacrifice the first person he meets. When he returns home, his only child, his daughter, happily meets him. She must be the sacrifice, he realizes...
In this compelling story we see how a heartbreaking ending leads to change. And that brings hope and new life. With music, dance and song from the different cultures that Amsterdam West has to offer. Such as baroque music from the oratorio Jepthe by Giacomo Carissimi, Afro-Surinamese songs sung by Winti priestess Marian Markelo and compositions by the Iranian composer Aftab Darvishi who was inspired by Arabic and Persian trance rituals.
