Orfeo in India

An ancient love-story across cultures

Orfeo in India is a unique collaboration between World Opera Lab and Darpana Performing Group from Ahmedabad, India. Taking the oldest opera in the repertoire, L'Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi, as a starting point, three classical singers and five musicians entered a creative dialogue with the dancers and musicians of Darpana. Through the famous myth of Orfeo: different mythologies, musical styles and, movements-styles echo and mirror each other.

Orfeo tells the story of the best singer in the world who looses his wife; Euridice. He decides to go into the underworld to get her back. With his beautiful song he convinces the god of the underworld to give his wife back, yet under one condition; he cannot look back...
